This post is a little bit of reminiscing and also a timely reminder of fun times and the importance of making time to have fun.
It was June 2016 when I had the pleasure of being a ‘Real Women’ model for Anna Perra at Rodney Stoke Inn and what super fun we had! Not only did we get to wear the wonderful designs from Anna’s Boutique, we had the pleasure of showcasing the stunning designer shoes by ChaniiB (stores in Bath & Bristol). Amazing support team and models, over 100 guests and a few glasses of Prosecco (just to be on the safe side 😊). And to top it all, Anna did a stellar job of raising funds for the charity she supports so everyone was a winner!
There is something quite fantastic being with a group of like-minded women, doing good and laughing out loud…
One of my key life principles is having fun and I don’t think most of us make enough time for it or take it seriously enough to make it a priority. Often when I speak to my clients, they feel guilty about having fun when there are so many serious things to take care of; and that’s the exact reason why fun is needed. We must get into the habit of breaking up the intensity of life by relaxing and enjoying it.
I’m sure you have heard it said a million times, ‘life is too short’. And if you keep on putting off the fun stuff until ‘you have the time, the money, the dream partner, ‘something’ or ‘someone’ that brings fun to your life, you’ll end up regretting the life you have to live RIGHT NOW.
You see, having fun doesn’t have to cost a penny, it doesn’t have to take up a lot of time and you don’t have to wait for someone to bring it to you.
The trick is to embed fun things into your daily life. For example, I love dancing around the front room singing at the top of my voice; it makes me feel alive and happy. I also like to do it before I start my working day because it gives me the perfect high to get stuck into my work joyfully. I love watching a good romantic comedy and laughing out loud, having a social catch up with my friends & family, and yes, taking part in fashion shows (now firmly added to my list). And most of these I can find time for on a regular basis.
The big question then, is what are you doing to bring fun into your life? Do you know how to have fun on your own? And who are the people you like to have fun with?
And if you’re still not convinced of its importance remember this:
- It increases serotonin levels – the chemical that regulates some of your key functions such as sleep pattern, mood, memory and body temperature
- It reduces stress by reducing cortisol levels, the chemical associated with increased stress
- It increases energy – what can I say; who doesn’t want more energy?!
- It helps us connect better with others. Let’s face it, few people want to be around people who are constantly miserable or serious
Wherever you find it, make the most of it! Don’t let days, weeks and months slip by with little or no Fun.
